2010 Municipal Election

The next municipal election will occur on Monday, October 25, 2010.


Important Notice to Eligible Electors

Vote By Mail

The Township of Brock will be conducting this election by using VOTE BY MAIL as opposed to traditional polling stations. Eligible electors who are on the voters' list will be mailed a vote by mail kit during the week of September 27th, 2010. Electors will have the option of returning the their ballot by mail or by delivering same to the Township of Brock Municipal Office (1 Cameron Street East, Cannington). The last date to guarantee mail delivery is October 16, 2010. 

Revisions to the Voters' List

Electors are encouraged to examine the voters list commencing September 7, 2010 to ensure that their name appears on the list. Revisions to the voters' list can be made starting September 7, 2010 until the close of voting at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 25, 2010. 

Qualification of Electors

You are entitled to vote if you meet the following criteria during the qualification period (September 7, 2010 - October 25, 2010):

  • reside in the Township of Brock

  • is the owner or tenant of land in the Township of Brock or is the spouse of such owner or tenant

  • is a Canadian citizen (British subjects are NOT eligible to vote)

  • is eighteen (18) years of age on Voting Day

  • is not prohibited by virtue of section 17(3) of the Municipal Elections Act. 

Nominations 

Nominations for members of Council and the relevant school boards are now being accepted during office hours, Monday to Friday (8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) and on Nomination Day (Friday, September 10, 2010) from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Click here for the Notice of Nomination.

Nomination forms must be submitted in the office of the Clerk with an original signature. Electronic and faxed copies of Nomination forms will not be accepted. The filing fee is $200 for the Mayor and $100 for all other positions (cash, certified cheque, debit, or money order only).

Question on the Ballot

The Council of the Regional Municipality of Durham enacted By-law No. 20-2010 to submit the following question to the electors in all lower-tier municipalities in the Region of Durham:

"Are you in favour of the Council of the Regional Municipality of Durham passing the necessary resolutions and by-laws to change the method of selecting its Chair from appointment by all members of Regional Council to election by general vote of all electors in the Region?"
