Fire Prevention Program
Prevention saves lives.
Fire prevention activities undertaken by the department include the following:
- Inspections of buildings to ensure that construction meets the requirements of the Ontario Fire Code (wall separations, ingress and egress, etc.)
- Older and Wiser Program - specific fire prevention programs for seniors and the elderly
- The Arson Prevention Program for Children (TAPP-C)
- School Safety Programs - fire department personnel visiting schools to teach fire safety programs to children as well as conducting fire drills. In addition, the fire department hosts the Girl Guides, Boy Scouts, Brownies, and Cubs at the fire hall in order to educate our young people about fire prevention techniques, etc.
- Farm Safety - click here for a checklist prepared by the Ontario Fire Marshal to assist in ensuring your farm is safe from fire.
The fire department encourages any community group to contact the office if you would like staff of the department to attend your meeting in order to learn more about fire prevention. Please contact the Fire Prevention Officer to arrange for a presentation.
The Ontario Fire Code requires the implementation of a fire safety plan for most buildings and occupancies.
A fire safety plan helps to ensure effective utilization of fire safety systems, equipment and procedures in a building to protect people from fire. The plan should be customized to mirror the resources of each individual building.
These templates have been used with the permission of the Town of Markham Fire & Emergency Services. This fire safety plan template (available in Word) is provided for the use of building owners and employers in the Township of Brock. Download the appropriate template for your building. Provide all requested information and submit it to the municipality.
