Summer Road Maintenance Program

by Site Admin last modified 2006-04-15 16:30

Applying dust suppressant, winter clean-up (e.g., streetsweeping), and roadway brush removal/tree trimming.

Early to mid May the Public Works Department begins to apply dust suppressant on the gravel roads throughout the municipality. Each season approximately 1,500,000 litres of 35% Liquid Calcium Chloride is applied to the roads to limit dust created by vehicular traffic.

Each spring, April and May, the Township conducts winter cleanup operations. Streets and sidewalks are swept to remove the winter sand/salt accumulated over the winter season. Street sweeping reduces the amount of dust raised by traffic in our urban areas.

Part of the summer maintenance program includes tree trimming, tree removals, and 'day lighting' of intersections to maintain visibility for the traveling public.

The Township endeavors to maintain as much natural habitation as possible. Tree Committees have been established in the urban areas of Beaverton and Cannington for this purpose. These committees are comprised of representatives of Council, the Works Department and volunteer members from the respective communities. Meetings are held on an as-needed basis - concerns and requests for tree removals/trimming are viewed and considered by the respective Committee with provided to the Public Works Department for follow-up. For more information about the Tree Committees, please contact the Public Works Department.

Brush removed by the Township is taken to the Thorah Works Depot at B27305 Sideroad 17 and is generated into wood chips. These chips are available to the public free of charge, Monday - Friday, from 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Please note: Residents are responsible for bagging and transporting chips.

Tree removal/trimming on private property is the responsibility of the property owner - not the Township of Brock.
