Ward Boundary Review logo

The Township of Brock is working on a comprehensive and independent Ward Boundary Review to identify effective and equitable electoral ward boundaries for the 2022 municipal election and beyond.

Brock’s ward boundaries have not been reviewed since Brock was created in 1974. Since that time, Brock’s population has grown by more than 15 per cent. The Review will ensure that residents have equitable representation on Council and that the ward boundaries established group residents and neighbourhoods together in a way that each resident’s vote is roughly equal to the votes of others. Council makes important decisions that impact the community. It is essential that residents are engaged and provide input to help determine electoral wards. This ensures that your voice and opinions are considered, even before you head to the polls.

The Review will examine Brock’s five existing wards and their boundaries and will determine if there are possible alternative configurations. Under the current system, each ward elects a Mayor, one local Councillor, and one Regional Councillor. The Review will be based on best practices and established principles.

One of the principles is representation by population. Brock aspires to a ward system that represents each of its residents equally.

The other principles include creating ward boundaries based on population trends, communities of interest, geographic and topographical features, or achieving effective representation where each resident has comparable access to their elected representative.

Residents will be involved throughout the process and asked to provide comments and input. Brock has developed a robust consultation process that includes two virtual community information sessions, being held on  Wednesday, October 21st at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The Township has also prepared online engagement. Visit www.townshipofbrock.ca/wbr for the complete project overview and to fill out our survey. Residents can also send their suggestions to the Municipal Clerk’s Department by email or mail. Please address letters to Ward Boundary Review and mail to 1 Cameron Street East, PO Box 10, Cannington, ON L0E 1E0

The results of the consultation and technical analysis conducted by Consultants Watson & Associates Economists Ltd. will be used to prepare alternate ward boundary plans. A final report with recommended alternative ward boundaries will be presented to Council for consideration and approval in December.
