Refreshment Vehicles
The Township of Brock would like to provide some clarification on the operation of refreshment vehicles (chip trucks, coffee trucks, hot dog carts, and ice cream carts) in the Township of Brock. Refreshment Vehicles are regulated by the Township of Brock Refreshment Vehicle By-Law (By-law Number 2382-2011-PP) which provides information on how the Township licences and regulates refreshment vehicles. This is to ensure the health and safety of all.
Anyone interested in operating a refreshment vehicle is required to complete an Application for a Refreshment Vehicle Licence and submit it to the Clerk’s Department for approval by Council.
Once Council approves the application, your licence will be issued after completing and submitting the following:
- Regional Health Unit inspection and approval
- Fire Department inspection and approval (this may require you to install a kitchen fire suppression system)
- Submission of proof of liability insurance
- Payment of the licence fee
In addition, if you do not own the property in which the refreshment vehicle is located, you will be required to provide a letter of permission from the property owner authorizing you to operate your refreshment vehicle on their property.
Refreshment vehicle's must be located at least 50 m from an eating establishment and the number of Refreshment Vehicle Licences are limited each year. If a business fails to comply with the By-law, they are liable to a penalty as per the Provincial Offences Act.
