The Township of Brock is governed by the Mayor and Council along with a variety of boards and committees. To attend an upcoming Council meeting, view a Council meeting livestream, or to speak at a Council meeting, view our Council Calendar.

The Township of Brock consists of the Mayor, a Regional Councillor and five ward councillors. Elections are held every four years.

Mayor - John Grant

Mayor John GrantMayor John Grant is serving his second term as Mayor (appointed March 15, 2021).

He previously served the Township of Brock as Mayor (2014-2018), Regional Councillor (2006-2010), Ward 2 Councillor (2003-2006),  and Ward 1 Councillor (1994-1997).

About John Grant

John is a resident of Beaverton where he co-owns two businesses. With a longstanding commitment to community service, he has served as a volunteer and leader for numerous organizations and service groups including: Beaverton Thorah Health Centre Board of Directors; Brock Non-Profit Housing; Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 135; Kinsmen; Beaverton/Cannington Arthritis Society; Brock Board of Trade; Thorah Island Ratepayers Association; Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority; Beaverton River Trail Committee; and more. 

Regional Councillor Ted Smith

Regional Councillor Ted SmithW.E. Ted Smith is serving his second term as Regional Councillor. Previously, he served two terms as Ward five Councillor.

About Ted Smith

Along with his family, Ted Smith operates Teledale Farms southeast of Sunderland. Ted is a strong community member and volunteer. He is the current chair of the Sunderland Maple Syrup Festival, is a member of the Brock Community Health Centre Board, and the Sunderland Agricultural Society.

Ted Smith has served on a variety of committees, including:

  • Shop Brock Downtown Revitalization Committee
  • Chair of Kawartha Region Conservation Authority

Councillor Michael Jubb (Ward 1)

Ward 1 Councillor Michael JubbMichael Jubb is serving his first term on Council as the representative of Ward 1.

About Michael Jubb

A lifetime volunteer, he is involved with numerous volunteer organizations through the Township of Brock. He is a director of the Beaverton Fair Board, an executive member of Beaverton Special Events, serving on the Lodwick Citizenship Award Committee, as well as an active volunteer with the Royal Canadian Legion Beaverton, member of the BTE Historical Society and the Beaverton Horticultural Society. Michael is a long-time member of the Township of Brock Fire department and is a career member of the Department of National Defense working out of Base Borden. He has received many awards and commendations including the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal for dedicated community services. He is married with two young boys.

Councillor Claire Doble (Ward 2)

Claire is a registered Dietician, mother of two beautiful children and entrepreneur. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Brock Youth Centre and is an active member of the community.

Councillor Walter Schummer (Ward 3)

Walter is a professional accountant by trade and owns his own accounting firm with offices in Cannington and Orillia. He is an active volunteer in the Township being involved with the Cannington Lions Club, 1st Cannington Scout Group, Cannington Legion, Brock Board of Trade and others.

Councillor Cria Pettingill (Ward 4)

About Cria Pettingill

Cria is an active volunteer in the community. Prior to her time on Council, she served on the Brock Economic Development Advisory Committee, Brock Board of Trade, Committee of Adjustment, and the Brock Youth Centre. She was Brock's representative on the Durham Environmental Advisory Committee and helped to establish the Ward 4 Shoreline Ratepayers Association. Currently she is a member of the Cannington Horticultural Society and Brock Community Choir.
