Council Highlights April 28, 2025

Council Highlights offer a summary of crucial decisions or agenda items discussed in Council meetings, aiming to give residents a snapshot of the meeting proceedings. The following are highlights from Monday's Council Meeting.
- Council received a presentation on North Durham Agriculture-Related and On-Farm Diversified Uses Recommendations. The recommendations were informed by a broad audience of organizations who have a heightened interest in agriculture land uses and on farm diversified uses. Each municipality in North Durham will need to consider the recommendations and take on the local planning and implementing processes outlined.

- Brock Township Fire Department presented their Q2 status report to Council.
- By-Law and Animal Services presented the Q1 status report to Council.
- Council approved for the Township of Brock to enter into an agreement with Alerting and Dispatching Services Agreement with the City of Oshawa Fire Service. This service will assist the Brock Fire Department in performing communications and dispatching duties.
- Council has approved a request from the Beaverton Lions Club to rename the King Street Park to Lodwick Park.
- Mayor Schummer provided an update the news of Durham Region Transit's new Route 618 which starts on May 5, 2025. This new route will provide weekday daytime services between Port Perry, Sunderland, Cannington and Beaverton. On Demand service will continue to operate in areas not accessible by scheduled service and where Route 618 is not operating.
