Council Highlights December 8, 2025

Council Highlights offer a summary of crucial decisions or agenda items discussed in Council meetings, aiming to give residents a snapshot of the meeting proceedings. The following are highlights from Monday's Council Meeting:

Council was presented with annual updates from the following Advisory Committees, giving highlights of workplan accomplishments in 2025:

o   Brock Non-Profit Sector Advisory Committee

o   Brock Accessibility Advisory Committee

o   Brock Tourism Advisory Committee  

Council has adopted the Storm Sewer Use Bylaw. This Storm Sewer Use By-law clearly defines the expected standards and practices for stormwater discharge within the Township. More information on this by-law will be available on the Townships By-laws and Policies webpage.

Council has directed staff to proceed with the purchase of a new fabric cover and temporary foundation to replace the current Sunderland Sand Dome. This modern structure will use advanced materials and technology, offering a life cycle equal to or better than traditional wooden domes. 

Council was updated on the Concession Road 3, Thorah ditch work in Beaverton and staff have been directed to implement safety measures onsite immediately to include, signage, traffic barriers, etc. Staff will report back to Council with an additional engineering report and legal advice with respect to recovering costs for the installation of guardrails.

Council has approved staff to purchase emergency supplies to close one lane on Bridge 39 Concession on  11 Thorah, to be funded from the Asset Management Reserve.

Council has approved the suggested location for the donated gazebo to be installed near the skate park in MacLeod Park, Cannington.  Installation of the gazebo is anticipated to start in spring 2026.

Council was presented with the Q2 and Q3 Fire Department stats.

Council was presented with the Downtown Community Improvement Plan Summer Report. A Community Improvement Plan (CIP) is a tool to help municipalities revitalize targeted areas through programs, grants, and incentives that support land and building restoration, energy efficiency, and sustainable growth. Since the updated Downtown CIP document was approved by Council in June 2024, three (3) complete applications were received and approved.

Cannington Horticultural Society requested support for their 2026 Tree Planting Plan and Council has directed staff to work with the Society with respect to the requests.

A request for a reduction of the speed limit to 40 km/h on Simcoe Street, Beaverton at Holy Family Public School, was received and Council has direct staff to forward the request to Durham Region for consideration.
