Council Highlights November 12, 2025

A Special Council meeting for the Council Vacancy Appointment was held Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. Seven individuals put their names forward for Council’s consideration. Each Candidate had 5 minutes to speak to Council and answer questions about their intentions for the Ward 4 Councillor seat. Following the candidates’ presentations, Council chose to appoint Ron Hodgson as Ward 4 Councillor.

Council Highlights November 10, 2025

Council heard a presentation from Brock Arts and Culture regarding a Winter Holiday Art Installation. Council has directed staff to work with Brock Arts and Culture and the Region of Durham for approval of installations of these works on Regional roads.

Council has directed staff to tender the repair project for the MacLeod Bridge in Cannington. The MacLeod Bridge Repair will be referred to the mayor for consideration during the 2026 budget discussions.

Council has directed staff to purchase a new fabric cover dome and temporary foundation to replace the old Sunderland Sand Dome.  Staff will report to Council on the process for public works facilities to be inspected moving forward.

Council has directed staff to proceed with the design and tender process for the repair work on the Concession 11 bridge after the 2026 budget has been approved. A partial road closure has been recommended to take place immediately and the bridge will be closed once repair works commence.

Council has approved and adopted the Facility Booking Policy which will provide a fair, transparent, and consistent approach to manage bookings at Township facilities.

The Annual Camp Summery report was presented and Council has directed Staff to plan for the 2026 March Break Camp Program that runs from March 9-13 and 2026 Summer Day Camp Program that runs from June 29-August 27 in the Foster Hewett Memorial CC and the Rick MacLeish Memorial CC. Full week registration will be available in the spring of 2026.

Council directed staff to bring forward a report on the dimensions, cost, and integrity of the current signpost located at the Beaverton Harbour and options moving forward for the harbour sign, which was damaged from high winds. Council has directed staff to develop a Sign Policy which will include procurement, materials, consultation, design and size for municipal signage.

A request for the installation of fencing at Old Mill Gateway Park in Beaverton was received and Council has directed staff to proceed with the installation of temporary fencing in spring 2026 with removal in fall 2026.

A request for a 4-way stop located at Munro Street and Albert Street, Cannington was received and Council has directed staff to report back on the feasibility of this request.

The Township of Brock respectfully petitions the provincial government to implement provincial regulations to restrict the possession, breeding, and use of non-native ("exotic") wild animals and license zoos in order to guarantee the fair and consistent application of policy throughout Ontario for the safety of Ontario's citizens and the non-native ("exotic") wild animal population. This resolution will be forwarded to all municipalities in Ontario for support and that each endorsement be then forwarded to the Premier of Ontario, Ontario Solicitor General, Ontario Minister for Natural Resources and Forestry, MPP Laurie Scott, AMO, AMCTO and MLEAO.

Brock Council supports the Elect Respect pledge and commits to:

  • Treat others with respect in all spaces—public, private, and online,
  • Reject and call out harassment, abuse, and personal attacks,
  • Focus debate on ideas and policies, not personal attacks,
  • Help build a supportive culture where people of all backgrounds feel safe to run for and hold office,
  • Call on relevant authorities to ensure the protection of elected officials who face abuse or threats, and
  • Model integrity and respect by holding one another to the highest standards of conduct;

Brock Council calls on elected officials, organizations and community members to support the Elect Respect campaign and sign the online pledge at electrespect.ca. This resolution will be sent to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, Ontario’s Big City Mayors, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, the Office of the Mayor of Burlington, relevant MPs and MPPs, Regional Police, the Ontario Provincial Police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
