Council Highlights October 14, 2025

Council Highlights offer a summary of crucial decisions or agenda items discussed in Council meetings, aiming to give residents a snapshot of the meeting proceedings. The following are highlights from Tuesday's Council Meeting

Council was presented the Community Policing Report by the Durham Regional Police Service Board. The presentation outlined the following:

  • Strategic Plan
  • Financial and Capital Resources
  • Community Engagement
  • Community Safety Issues

The Township has accepted the gift of the parcel of land known as Fox Park from the Beaverton & District Conservation Club. A plaque identifying this donation will be commissioned in honour of the Beaverton & District Conversation Club. Staff have been directed to have the property cleaned up by a certified arborist.

An update on the Macleod Park Revision Plan was presented to Council. This new concept has taken all feed back from user groups, residents and the Region of Durham, specifically the Wellhead Protection Area. Funding for this project will be discussed as part of the 2026 draft budget and an internal committee with Council members and staff will assist with the proposed development plan.

Council has directed staff to prepare a tender document for the Thorah Island Harbour Dock repair work  on Thorah Island. Work is expected to be completed prior to the berthing slip agreement for 2026.

Council has directed staff install a new accessible ramp, stairs and landing at the Manilla Community Hall in the fall of 2025. During this construction the accessible entrance and accessible parking space will not be available. The only other access to this building is not accessible and is located at the west end of the building.

 Council has directed staff to enter into the Fire Protection Agreement with the Town of Georgina and to report back in two years time of the value of this agreement.

Council has declared the seat of Ward 4 Councillor vacant. The Council Vacancy Policy outlines the accountable and transparent process of filling Council Vacancies that may occur during a term of office. Members of the public who wish to apply for the Ward 4 Councillor seat can find more information on the process on our elections webpage. A special Council meeting will be held on November 12, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. to consider and appoint a Qualified Candidate to the office of Ward 4.

Staff have been directed to investigate and report back on traffic calming measures from Peace Street and Cameron Street to the arena in Cannington.
