Council Highlights September 8, 2025

Council Highlights offer a summary of crucial decisions or agenda items discussed in Council meetings, aiming to give residents a snapshot of the meeting proceedings. The following are highlights from Monday's Council Meeting.

  • Fire Chief Rick Harrison received the 40 years bar for service in the public sector from the Ministry of the Solicitor General – Office of the Fire Marshall. Over the past four decades, Fire Chief Rick Harrison has exemplified professionalism, commitment, and integrity in fire service, serving the people of Vaughan, Woodbridge and of course here in Brock Township with unwavering dedication. Before his 40-year fire career, Chief Harrison also served as an Emergency Medical Care Attendant for Uxbridge/Stouffville EMS. Council and staff thank Chief Harrison for his vision, tireless efforts, and the positive legacy he has created for both the Brock Fire Department and our community.
  • Council has declared the seat of Regional Councillor vacant and has approved the new Council Vacancy Policy to establish an accountable and transparent process for filling Council vacancies that occur during a term of office.   • Additional information was provided to Council on the Strong Mayor Powers with regards to the revised budget process and timetable for the 2026 Brock Budget.
  • The following budget deliberation meeting dates have been approved by Council:
    • November 24, 2025 - Budget Kickoff
    • November 26, 2025 - Department presentation
    • December 1, 2025 - Department presentations 
    • December 15, 2025 - Budget Approval
  • Council has approved the use of using 4.5% salt in winter sand starting in 2025.
  • Council was presented with the Q2 Report from the By-law and Animal Services Division.
  • Council has approved the amendment to the Animal Control By-Law with regards to the upcoming Off-Leash Dog Park in Brock.
  • The annual Brock Charity Golf Tournament raised $13,554 in 2025 to support youth and senior programs in our community.
  • Brock Minor Hockey Association presented Council with a request for early ice to be installed in Beaverton 2026 and Sunderland as soon as the facility is recommissioned. Members of the Sunderland Agricultural Society and the Beaverton Agricultural Society presented to Council regarding BMHA’s early ice request and its impact on the annual fall fairs. Council has directed staff to organize a meeting with interested parties regarding early ice for 2026 and that staff report on the feasibility of the request including costs, temporary flooring, staff timing and the possibility of insulating the Cannington Arena.
  • Council received a presentation from Outer City Arts with respect to their financial plan and potential lease for the upstairs auditorium on the Old Cannington Hall. Council has directed staff to report back on the cost of renovating the auditorium and potential revenue from leases.
