Council Highlights offer a summary of crucial decisions or agenda items discussed in Council meetings, aiming to give residents a snapshot of the meeting proceedings. The following are highlights from the last Council Meeting.

• Regional Chair John Henry presented the Annual Region of Durham Update to Council. The presentation update included the Regions 10-year strategic plan, Durham Region Transit, stable affordable housing, bilateral partnership with the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, business support and development and improving policing and paramedic capacity to meet the growing demand.  Durham Region is proud to be recognized as the Clean Energy Capital of Canada which positions the Region as a global leader in innovation. Strong partnerships and bold ideas are shaping a brighter future for our communities and in 2025 Durham was named Intelligent Community of the Year. 

• Council was presented with preliminary designs for the upcoming Beaverton Harbour Washroom project which has three gender neutral washrooms (one fully accessible), mechanical and storage room, outside water bottle filling station with integrated water fountain and a separate potable water hose bib which will operate seasonally.  The final drawings will be presented to Council upon design completion prior to the tender for construction being posted.
