Replacement of Saintfield Road Bridge over the Layton River in the Township of Scugog

What’s happening?

The Regional Municipality of Durham has hired Looby Construction Limited, to remove and replace the Saintfield Road Bridge.

What work is being done?

  • Demolition of the existing bridge and full replacement.
  • New steel beam guide rail installation.
  • Widening of existing shoulder and ditch realignment.
  • Placement of hot mix asphalt approximately 100 metres east and west from the bridge.

When will this happen?
Looby Construction Limited will be on site the week of June 29 to start preparing for the work. The construction is expected to finish by November 30, depending on weather conditions.

How will traffic be affected?

  • This work requires a full road closure on Saintfield Road from Old Simcoe Road to east of Bridge.
  • Traffic will follow the detour routes utilizing Highway 7/12 to Regional Road 13 to Simcoe Street.
  • Prior to the full road closure starting on July 6 traffic can expect daytime single lane closures.

Other important information

  • The equipment used for construction might make noise and cause ground vibrations. Anyone living or working nearby may notice this.

  • The Region is doing its best to finish the work quickly and safely.
  • Please be careful when driving in the area for the safety of construction workers, people walking and people cycling.
