Ukrainian Flag Raised at The Municipal Administration Building

The Ukrainian flag was raised at the Municipal Administration Building in Cannington on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 in celebration of the 31st anniversary of Ukrainian Independence.

Among those in attendance were Regional Councillor Ted Smith, Ward 1 Councillor Michael Jubb, Ward 2 Councillor Claire Doble, Ward 3 Councillor Walter Schummer, Ward 4 Councillor Cria Pettingill, Ward 5 Councillor Lynn Campbell, members of staff, and members of the public.

Regional Councillor Ted Smith gave a heartfelt speech commemorating the anniversary. Mayor John Grant's speech was posted on the Township's social media as he was unable to attend the event, but wanted to share in the ceremony.

Tatiana Lisnychuk, originally from Ukraine, and now a resident of Brock Township attended the ceremony with her son and shared her thoughts: “Independence is in the genetic code of our hearts and minds and our very soul and is passed from generation to generation from our parents to us, from us to our children. Only in such a way will we be independent in our mighty Ukraine.” 

We’re honoured to celebrate the 31st anniversary of Ukrainian Independence and the resilience of the Ukrainian people.
