Information for Interested Candidates for Regional Councillor
On Monday September 8, 2025 Council declared the office of Regional Councillor vacant and directed the Clerk to conduct an appointment by open call for qualified interested candidates.
Applications will be accepted in the Clerk's Office at the Municipal Administration Building (1 Cameron Street East, Cannington) from Tuesday September 9, 2025 to Friday September 26, 2025 at 4:00 p.m.
The Special Council meeting for the Council Vacancy Appointment will be held on Wednesday October 8, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. Members of the public may view this meeting by watching the stream online or attending in person, in Council Chambers.
The below information pertains to the next regular election being held on Monday October 26, 2026.
Information for Voters
The next regular election will take place on Monday October 26, 2026.
A person is entitled to vote in a municipal election if they are a qualified elector. That means, you must be:
- A resident of the Township of Brock, or an owner or tenant of land in the Township, or the spouse of such an owner or tenant;
- A Canadian citizen;
- At least 18 years old; and
- Not prohibited from voting by law
If you are not a resident of the Township of Brock, to vote for a School Board Trustee, you must be:
- An owner or tenant of residential property in the area of jurisdiction of the school board, who does not support any other board
Who cannot vote?
The following are prohibited from voting in a municipal election:
- Serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution
- A corporation
- Acting as executor or trustee or in another representative capacity, except as a voting proxy
- Convicted of a corrupt practice described in section 90(3) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996
As a Canadian citizen, voting is your right and responsibility. Your community is shaped by the outcome of an election.
The individual who is elected takes part in making many important decisions including how tax dollars are spent in your community.
Is your name on the Voters' List?
Please check to see if your name is on the Voters List.
Helpful hints when checking the Voters List:
- Do not put a letter in front of the street number
- Remember there are Thorah Concession Roads in Beaverton and Brock Concession Roads in Sunderland with the same numbering
- Try a variation of your street name (Example: Cameron Street, Regional Road 12, Reg Rd 12 or Lakeridge Road, Lake Ridge Rd, Durham Rd 23)
If you receive a message that you are not on the list, please complete the Application to Amend the Voters’ List (EL 15 form) and bring it with you to the Municipal Office or Voting Assistance Centre. You will also be required to show identification with proof of your address. If you have any questions, please contact clerks@brock.ca or 705-432-2355.
Voting for the 2026 general election can be conducted by internet, telephone or by visiting a Voter Assistance Centre and requesting a ballot-on-demand.
All eligible electors will receive a Voter Information letter in the mail.
- Keep the Voting Information letter in a safe place until voting opens
- Follow the instructions in your Voter Information letter. There are specific instructions for voting online and by telephone. Both of which will require the PIN number within your personalized letter.
- If you require assistance, you may bring your Voter Information letter to any Voter Assistance Centre during the voting period
Voter Assistance Centres - Where can I go for help?
During the advanced voting period and on voting day, electors may attend any Voter Assistance Centre for help.
Assistance will be provided if you received a Voter Information Letter and need help voting, if you did not receive a Voter Information Letter or if your Voter Information Letter has errors and needs to be corrected.
You are not required to attend a Voter Assistance Centre if you intended to cast your ballot online or by telephone.

Removing Yourself/Someone from the Voters' List
If you would like to remove yourself or a family member who is deceased, please complete the Application to Amend the Voters' List Form, and attend the Clerk's Office at 1 Cameron Street East during regular business hours. (Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)
If you have received a Voting PIN Letter from a Municipal Election for someone who has moved, or is no longer a resident at your address, it is extremely important that you return that letter, unopened, in the mail. Mark on the envelope "Return to Sender - Moved" or "Return to Sender - Deceased" , and elections staff will deactivate the PIN and attempt to verify the change once it is received back in the mail.

Information for Candidates
A person is entitled to be a candidate for Mayor or Councillor if he or she:
- Is a resident of the Township of Brock, or an owner or tenant of land in the Township of Brock, or the spouse of such an owner or tenant;
- Is a Canadian citizen;
- Is at least 18 years old; and
- Is not legally prohibited from voting
- An employee of the municipality unless they take an unpaid leave of absence beginning the day they are nominated and resign if elected to the office
- A judge of any court
- A member of the Provincial Legislature, the Federal House of Commons or Senate who has not resigned from their office by the close of nominations. Proof of resignation must be provided by the close of nominations or the Clerk will not certify the nomination
- A candidate who failed to file the necessary financial statement(s) in the last municipal election or by-election.

Electors may cast their vote by telephone or internet anytime of the day during the voting period. For assistance, or to request a ballot on demand, electors may visit any Voter Assistance Centre.
If I own property in Brock, and in other Ontario Municipalities, can I vote more than once
Yes. Qualified electors may vote in each municipality in Ontario that they qualify as an elector, however they may only vote for each office once.
Can I vote in Brock if I own a cottage or other seasonal residence
Yes. Qualified electors may vote in each municipality in Ontario that they own property. If you are an owner of a property (or their spouse), you may qualify as an elector, and you will receive a Voting PIN Letter in the mail so that you can vote from your home.
Trailer owners in campgrounds are tenants of the campground; therefore they are potentially eligible electors.
Can someone else vote on my behalf
No. You must complete the voting by either Internet, Telephone or Ballot on Demand on your own. That being said, you may offer assistance to friends and family, with their permission, but ultimately the secrecy of the ballot is paramount, and you must not interfere with the voting process. Voter Assistance Centres will also be set up for our staff to assist if you have any questions.
Note: It is an offence to utilize another elector's PIN number and thereby vote multiple times.
How can I get in touch with a candidate, or find out about their election platform?
Certified Candidates will be listed on the website along with their contact information. At their direction, candidates may supply an address, phone number, or an email to be posted on the municipalities website. To find out about a candidate’s platform, you must contact the candidate or his or her campaign headquarters directly.
Where can I find election results
At the close of voting, the totals will be electronically tabulated by a central computer and compiled. The results will be displayed on the Township website.
