Elections

The Office of the Mayor waws declared vacant by Council on Monday June 9, 2025 following the resignation of Mayor Walter Schummer. The municipality is required to hold a by-election for the position in accordance with the Municipal Act and Municipal Elections Act

Over the next few weeks, additional information will be added to this page to support voters and interested candidates. 

Important Dates

  • Nominations for Office of the Mayor will open on Monday July 7, 2025 at 8:30 a.m. 
  • Nominations will close on Friday July 25, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. 

Our election will be simple: 4 days, 3 ways

  • Advanced Voting will take place on September 4, 5, and 6
  • By-election will be held on Monday September 8

Information for Voters

In order to vote in the upcoming by-election, you must be on the Municipal Voters' list. 

Confirm, update or add your information through Elections Ontario by visiting registertovoteon.ca 

A person is entitled to vote in a municipal election if they are a qualified elector. That means, you must be:

  • A resident of the Township of Brock, or an owner or tenant of land in the Township, or the spouse of such an owner or tenant;
  • A Canadian citizen;
  • At least 18 years old; and
  • Not prohibited from voting by law

If you are not a resident of the Township of Brock, to vote for a School Board Trustee, you must be:

  • An owner or tenant of residential property in the area of jurisdiction of the school board, who does not support any other board

Who cannot vote?

The following are prohibited from voting in a municipal election:

  • Serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution
  • A corporation
  • Acting as executor or trustee or in another representative capacity, except as a voting proxy
  • Convicted of a corrupt practice described in section 90(3) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996

As a Canadian citizen, voting is your right and responsibility. Your community is shaped by the outcome of an election.

The individual who is elected takes part in making many important decisions including how tax dollars are spent in your community.

Check the Voters' List to ensure you are on it, and that your mailing address is up to date by visiting registertovote.on.ca 

4 days, 3 ways

Advanced voting will take place on September 4, 5, and 6, 2025. The formal by-election day is Monday September 8, 2025. 

Voting for the 2025 by-election can be conducted by internet, telephone or by visiting a Voter Assistance Centre and requesting a ballot-on-demand.  

All eligible electors will receive a Voter Information letter in the mail. 

  • Keep the Voting Information letter in a safe place until voting opens on September 4, 2025. 
  • You will have 4 days to vote.
  • Follow the instructions in your Voter Information letter. There are specific instructions for voting online and by telephone. Both of which will require the PIN number within your personalized letter. 
  • If you require assistance, you may bring your Voter Information letter to any Voter Assistance Centre during the voting period (September 4, 5, 6, and 8, 2025). 

During the advanced voting period and on voting day, electors may attend any of the following Voter Assistance Centres for help during the hours identified: 

  1. Foster Hewitt Memorial Community Centre Auditorium 
  2. Municipal Administration Building
  3. Fire Station 8-1, 
  • Thursday September 4, 2025 - 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. 
  • Friday September 5, 2025 - 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • Saturday September 6, 2025 - 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • Monday September 8, 2025 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Assistance will be provided if you received a Voter Information Letter and need help voting, if you did not receive a Voter Information Letter or if your Voter Information Letter has errors and needs to be corrected. 

You are not required to attend a Voter Assistance Centre if you intended to cast your ballot online or by telephone.

Information for Candidates

 A person is entitled to be a candidate for Mayor or Councillor if he or she:

  • Is a resident of the Township of Brock, or an owner or tenant of land in the Township of Brock, or the spouse of such an owner or tenant;
  • Is a Canadian citizen;
  • Is at least 18 years old; and
  • Is not legally prohibited from voting

  • An employee of the municipality unless they take an unpaid leave of absence beginning the day they are nominated and resign if elected to the office
  • A judge of any court
  • A member of the Provincial Legislature, the Federal House of Commons or Senate who has not resigned from their office by the close of nominations. Proof of resignation must be provided by the close of nominations or the Clerk will not certify the nomination
  • A candidate who failed to file the necessary financial statement(s) in the last municipal election or by-election.

Interested parties are required to file the following information with the Returning Officer, beginning Monday July 7, 2025 at 8:30 a.m. Nominations will close on Friday July 25, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. All documentation must be original, hard copies.
