Mammals
All mammals are restricted except for domestic:
- Cats
- Chinchillas
- Degus
- Dogs
- Hamsters
- Mice
- Rabbits
- Rats
- Sugar gliders
The following domestic livestock are allowed on properties in a rural zone:
- Cattle
- Goats
- Horses
- Llamas
- Pigs
- Sheep
Reptiles
All reptiles are restricted except for:
- Constricting and non-venomous snakes that are less than 2 m in length
- Non-venomous lizards that reach an adult length of less than 2 m from snout to the tip of the tail
- Non-snapping tortoises and turtles
Amphibians
All amphibians are restricted except for:
- Non-venomous frogs and toads
- Salamanders
- Newts
Birds
All birds are restricted except for the following livestock birds:
- Ducks, geese and swans
- Chickens, turkeys, domestic fowl and game birds
- Emus and ostriches
The following birds are allowed as household pets:
- Pigeons and doves
- Perching birds and song birds
- Parrots
Insects
All insects are restricted except for non-venomous spiders and centipedes. You can also keep honeybees.
Salt and Fresh Water Organisms
All venomous vertebrates and invertebrates are prohibited. Any other salt or fresh water organism is allowed.
