The Municipal Tax application is available for property owners to submit the form requesting a cancellation or reduction of part of the property taxes levied on land in the year in respect of which the application is made. Municipal Act Section 357 outlines the eligibility criteria available for such applications.
Municipal Tax applicants are to:
- Complete the Municipal Act application form. The form must clearly identify the reason for the application and attest that the information being submitted is accurate.
- Supporting documents must accompany the application form.
- Applications claiming renovation preventing normal use must be accompanied by:
- A building permit
- A copy of the renovation contract
- The total area of the structure
- The total area being renovated
- The total cost of repairs that were necessary to resume normal use with all supporting invoices and documents, and;
- A signed letter from the contractor on their letterhead showing the star and end dates of the repairs and renovations
All Municipal Act applications must be received by February 28 of the year following the year in respect of which the application is being made. Applications received past this date will not be accepted.
Property owners can apply by completing the Municipal Tax application and then submit to Township of Brock Treasury via email or in-person at Cannington Municipal Office.
